The Best Whole30 BBQ Sauce

Boot BBQ Sauce

I really missed having BBQ Sauce during my first two rounds of Whole30.  I’m a Texas girl that loves to dip, what can I say!  So I tried a few name brand options, and some homemade options, and didn’t care for any of them.  I had really given up on the idea that BBQ sauce was something I was going to be able to have again.

The Process

But, as I’ve told you all before, I’m all about figuring out how to make those comfort food recipes that I love so much into Whole30 options that I can carry through into my Food Freedom.  When I work on recipe development, I look at a lot of different factors.  When I’m in the store, I look at ingredient lists on sauces.  I’ll look up regular bbq sauce recipes and see what I like in certain recipes to try in a compliant version.  Then I will make a few options.

What I know I don’t love, is using a date to sweeten.  That is why I don’t like most of the bottled versions at the grocery store.  I like dates for sweet, but not savory items.  So I needed to find a way to sweeten it.  It came to me when I was making a different version of brussel sprouts one day.  I drizzled Balsamic Vinegar on them.  They came out and were a little too sweet for me.  That’s when I thought, “Oh, I bet that would be bomb in some bbq sauce!”

So, I tried it, and of course it was bomb!  This is a little sweet and a little heat, but not too much of anything, including ingredients.  This sauce is going to be amazing on so many things.  I can dip my nuggets in them, sauce ribs up, pull pork and chicken in it, and Isaac will just eat spoonfuls of it I’m sure.  I can’t wait to see what you put it on because I know you will love it!
